Michael Portley was welcomed to the earth on November 14th, 1979 to his proud parents, the late Michael Portley Sr. and Lauretta Cofield Portley. Michael is the third of seven children. He began to feel God calling him to ministry at an early age. As a child, Michael would often carry his bible in one hand and drumsticks in the other. It was known the call of music ministry, as well as the call of priesthood was in his life at an early age. At the acceptance of his call to preach the gospel, he met and married his one and only wife Lady Raqeisha Portley. After the birth of their only child Michael W. Portley III, (Tre).
Minister Portley was ordained by God to the office of clergy and was promoted to all privileges and responsibilities as an ordained elder to the full gospel ministry by the Church Of God In Christ as well as the Disciples Of Christ reformations. In 2006 Michael began to answer the call to the pastorate as God was birthing the ministry of Transformation Family Life Center Church. This ministry was one of viable proofs leading hundreds to salvation and purpose. Prior to a shift in commission this ministry operated for nearly 15 years serving the spiritual needs of the parish and community. As a proud husband, father, minister, author and recording artist, Pastor Portley has led many revivals, kingdom campaigns for advancement of Christ and musical workshops. As a result many souls have been added to the kingdom through his ministry.
Pastor Portley hold an earned Associate of Arts degree from Kansas City Kansas Community College as well as a Bachelors of Arts Management Human Relations (MHR) from MidAmerica Nazarene University, Olathe KS. Michael Portley has been employed for several years bi-vocationally serving in such capacities as Case Manager at Wyandot Center for Community Behavioral Healthcare. Also as Program Coordinator for Sexual Health at the Wyandotte County Health Department, as well as an Juvenile Intake Specialist for the Johnson County Department Of Corrections.
Michael Portley is often described as a cutting edge, risk taker for righteousness, anointed, spiritually astute in the academia of the Word, and one who does not plan to be involved in the traffic jam that HELL seemingly will experience. Pastor Portley is a musician by gifting, a minister of song and creative composer by inheritance and a preacher of the Word by divine ordination and impartation. Pastor along with his singing group, Students of David, released his first musical single in 2012, and shortly after recorded and released his freshman album “The Roof is on Fi’yah” in 2015. The album was a compilation of original compositions all written by Portley, each with adifferent style, flare and seasoning sponsored by the Holy Spirit.
In 2016 Pastor Portley recorded with the Gospel Music Workshop O f America (GMWA), National Mass Choir Division. He and his group Students Of David also appeared on the Word Network in 2017 on “Rejoice in Word” with Bishop George Bloomer. Later that year he was nominated and eventually became a recipient of the Steeple Award for Best Duo/Group of the year.
In 2018 Pastor Portley was consecrated as one of the Regional Overseers for Monument International Church Fellowship founded by the late Apostle Richard D. Henton. Pastor Portley has had the esteemed pleasure of composing music for Tyscot recording artist. In 2019 he released a hit song and video of hope entitled “It Still Works” featuring Bishop Mark Tolbert.
Pastor Portley has composed a diverse catalog of music that has blessed many throughout the nation spanning as far as Japan. In 2019 Dream Gospel Music Label announced the official signing of Pastor Michael Portley & Students Of David. As a Kingdom Image Award (KIA) Nominee, Pastor Portley has been featured on the Atlanta based “Americas Got Anointing” TV program. He’s also shared the Word of the Lord globally several times on Preach The Word WorldWide Network (PTWWN).
In January of 2022 Dream Gospel Records debuted Michael Portley’s first label released single entitled “Purpose To It All ” with full album being projected for release in the spring 2023. Along with book writing and music ministry Michael Portley has merged ministry into various marketplace sectors such as acting, recently accepting the role of John The Baptist in the musical stage play “The XII Musical” scheduled for the Spring of 2023. Additionally Michael Portley just wrapped up his first movie opportunity which is also set to be released in the summer of 2023 entitled “Lady Wisdom”.
