Who is Derrick without music? Such a question should not be asked. This young man has had his mind made up that music is life and probably wouldn’t be worth living without it. Derrick began singing at the age of 3. When his grandmother discovered that he had a voice, she pushed him to do solos at church. Having been heard by many people, Derrick was afforded opportunities to sing around his city, which involved singing in the presence of the mayor, senators, and running officials. Derrick was given the opportunity to relocate to New York City where he would be vocally trained and groomed to be an R&B icon, but God had other plans. Derrick pursued music in church, singing in several choirs and worship teams, was classically trained in High School and College where he minored in Music. Derrick is currently a background singer for various artists and singers in Kansas City, assist in songwriting projects, and studio sessions. Derrick is known as December Black by artists and singers outside of his city and is soon to step out of the background and spread his wings amongst his colleagues.
